![]() Angel Cabrera - Argentinan Golfer
Argentina seems able to produce wonderfully fluid swinging, gifted golfers. Following in the footsteps of Roberto de Vinzenzo and Eduardo Romero, Cabrera is the latest in the line of talented golfers from South America to play well on both the European and American tours. Known as a man to “stop and sniff the roses” there is something to really like about this bloke. Angel Cabrera recently said that when other pros feel the pressure and go into the mind set routine instilled from their psychology gurus, he copes by lighting up a cigarette! He also added that unlike other pros on tour who rely heavily on their swing coach glued to their side on the practice ground offering words of comfort and advice, the only coach he has is the one that takes him to the course. His swing certainly shows this, totally uninhibited. With a full free back swing he hits the ball huge distances and with a fair amount of accuracy. Regarded as a suspect pressure putter, he soon put that to bed by winning his first Major at Oakmont holing tricky puts when it mattered. Coming from a poor family and starting out as a caddie at an early age in order to earn money, he was helped in his career and financed in his early days on tour by Eduardo Romero. Cabrera in turn always gives money from his winnings back to the local community in Cordoba to encourage youngsters into golf. So who knows may be another generation of free swinging Argentineans may soon be ready to appear on tour.
