Astbury Hall Golf Club, Shropshire

Astbury Hall……………A superb new Golf Course in Shropshire

Astbury Hall Golf Club - A superb new Golf Course in Shropshire

In a tranquil part of Shropshire, located 3 miles out of the old market town of Bridgnorth on the B 4555, amid the most beautiful countryside imaginable an impressive new golf course is emerging that would equal any in the world - Astbury Hall Golf Club.

The 4th at Astbury Hall Golf Club, ShropshireAstbury Hall Manor House and the 350 acres of rolling country side that encompass this wonderful golf course is owned by the course designer K.K.Downing, lead guitarist of world renowned heavy rock group Judas Priest. He is a self confessed golfing addict and has designed and built the course based on ideas he has accumulated from playing some of the best golf courses in the world. He has now incorporated these ideas into his own creation and wants only the very best for golfers to come and sample the delights of this stunning location.

The 9th at Astbury Hall Golf Club, ShropshireAt present Astbury Hall has 9 holes completed, another 9 holes under construction and a further 9 holes planned that will make for a most enjoyable test of golf for golfers of all levels of ability if the holes already open are any guide. The fairways, greens and bunkers are meticulously maintained and the generous, gentle sloping greens a real joy to putt on. The fringes to each green are so mown that the ball sits up beautifully that it feels impossible to miss hit a chip shot.

The teeing areas on each hole are unique as they are cut in a circle. So that when placing the ball on the tee peg the direction of your tee shot will not be influenced by the direction that the tee is pointing in as is the norm on most golf courses. Intriguingly each hole has four separate coloured tee areas giving four different lengths to each hole depending on the ability of the golfer and the test he might prefer on the day. On some holes the length can be affected by as much a 100 yards from the back to the very front tee.

The first hole as an example, measuring 313 yards from the back or blue tee and down to 212 yards from the front or red tee is a delight to play both from the aesthetics of driving off from in front of the stunning Manor House but also from the terrain, where you feel unable to miss the slightly uphill, wide fairway and can picture hitting your second shot into a generous but well bunkered green to get off to a good start. The big hitters will fancy taking on driving the green but danger looms if the ball is pushed to the right, as thick rough is the deterrent! Risk and reward, just as golf should be played!

There is plenty of variety in the other holes on the front nine, mostly surrounded by tranquil breath taking countryside that will lift your spirit even if your golf is not so hot. But then you come to the par 3 ninth hole. You will always remember the ninth! Played from the elevated blue tee it measures 200 yards and the shot has to be played over water to the edge of an uphill twisting green. If the breeze is into your face this is a real test of nerve and skill. If you do not relish the challenge there are three other shorter tees with just 94 yards as the shortest from the red tee, but you still have to carry the water!

Exclusive lodge houses and eight barn conversions are in the process of being to be built around the edge of the course and are available to buy giving a wonderful opportunity of securing a great holiday home. Not only will they appeal to golfers but also to the family who will want to enjoy this particularly beautiful part of the country

At the moment the first 9-hole course is open to play so take the opportunity to contact Astbury Hall Golf Club, the new Golf Course in Shropshire and enjoy the delights of this fabulous course.
