Wrekin Golf Club
Just one mile from Junction 7 off the M54 motorway can be found the picturesque Wrekin Golf Club on an elevated position overlooking the County of Shropshire.
As you wind your way up the drive though an avenue of trees to the Clubhouse you are met with wonderful tranquility and superb views.
Whilst positioned on high land the Course itself is not particularly hilly. Holes are shaped out of gentle undulations with only the 18th a little uphill. Measuring 5,570 yards, it has no par fives, but is a great test of golf.
Wrekin boasts many interesting holes. None of the boring sameness here, although the six short holes will probably be remembered most.
Among them, the 2nd measures only 119yards; short enough to almost throw it on to the green. But with a slight cross wind and very well bunkered green, it is challenging enough.
The 4th is a testing 191 yards, played from an elevated tee to an elevated green. As the green slopes from back to front and from left to right, is so slick that any put played from left and above the hole is lightning quick making easy to put off the green.
The spectacular Signature 7th hole aptly named “The Pulpit”, played from a high tee, drops sharply down to the green 192yards away is a hole that stays in the memory.
But best of all is the view from the tee of the dog-leg 13th hole showing the beautiful Shropshire country side below and distant Welsh Hills.
After enjoying your round of golf, you can relax on the Clubhouse terraced roof with food and drink and take in the wonderful vista for the last time.
