Korineum Golf and Country Club, Esentepe, Northern Cyprus by Julie@welshpropertyservices.com

Having purchased a villa near this wonderful and relatively unknown golf course
and country club, I feel duty bound to tell everyone about this spectacular course. Spectacular
in both its location and in its design.
Situated on the coast in Esentepe at the foot of the Five Finger Mountain, the prestigious Korineum
Golf and Country Club is the first 18 hole international standard Par
72 course to be built in Northern Cyprus. Carved from a natural forest of Umbrella
Pines and Olive trees, it offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean on one
side and the famous Five Finger Mountain range on the other, a truly memorable
visual experience you will never forget.
The course is a dramatic 6,232 metre long gem, with some superb holes and is designed to test golfers of all standards
and ages.
Korineum
Golf & Country Club does not limit itself to being just a phenomenal
golf course. It is also caters for numerous social activities. Within the impressive
Club House is a Fitness Centre, Unisex Hair Styling Salon, Massage Parlour and
Sauna, ideal for the non-golfer to be pampered, as well as a great restaurant.
The terraced restaurant provides an unmatchable experience with a superb variety
and quality of cuisine married with picturesque views over the magnificent surrounding
area.
In addition the Clubhouse has two fully equipped conference rooms that can
accommodate 160 guests at one time making it a perfect location for your company
conference. Just have a word with the boss!
For
those intent on improving their game there is a fully equipped Golf Academy complete
with driving range, three full length practice holes, a variety of short game
practice areas and a café’ bar where you can relax after practising.
With the latest state of the art golf swing technology on offer, students of
all levels can receive helpful advice from one of the fully qualified P.G.A.
professionals. I know from personal experience that my game has improved enormously
since taking instruction from Mike the resident Irish professional.

13th Hole - ‘Besparmak’
This very testing par 3, aptly named which translates from Turkish into Five
fingers after the famous Mountain range, that you aim for, whilst playing over
a pine dotted ravine onto an elevated green. Measuring almost 200 metres from
the back tee, it is acclaimed as one of the most testing Par 3’s in the
Med. Take plenty of club off the tee as the green is deceptively long and anything
short will result in a lost ball.
2nd Hole - Korineum Creek
The very pretty, 123 meters par 3 hole, is played by aiming to the sea across
a ravine. Although quite short you need to make sure of the correct club selection
as the hole has a long contoured green surrounded by bunkers on the right and
slopes away on the left .If you miss on the left side hope that the pin is well
on the right of the green to give enough room to stop a high wedge return shot.
14th Hole - Vertigo
A relative short par 5 with the tee positioned on the highest point of the course,
offering another terrific hole with stunning views of the course, Five Finger
Mountain range and the Med. The emphasis here is to play an accurate drive to
a tight fairway. Follow this with a well struck fairway wood to a green surrounded
by a front bunker or play short and wedge on for your third shot. For the brave
long hitter try a tee shot out over the out of bounds which will reward you with
a much shorter second to the green and a good chance of a birdie. But beware
cut off too much and it will be back up the hill and 3 from the tee.
8th Hole – Cascade Carry
This is a terrific par 5, stretching 475 metres, demanding a drive across a ravine
to a fairway slightly obscured by olive and carob trees which could put you in
all kinds of trouble on your second shot. After playing to a very sloping green
if you have holed out for a par you can fell well pleased with yourself!
I would also recommend beautiful Northern Cyprus itself as a very unspoilt, quiet part
of the Mediterranean for those seeking a great holiday, especially if you are
looking for an” away from noisy crowds holiday”, with lots to
do and see. Scuba diving and water sports are available on your doorstep; you
can even watch the turtles laying their eggs at night on Alagdir beach close
to the Golf Club. Well worth seeing is the beautiful monastery village of Bellepais.

Kyrenia
(Girne) has a very picturesque harbour together with an ancient castle and other
interesting historical sights. Salamis is particularly beautiful with its sandy
beach and Roman ruins. Or drive out to the Karpas peninsula, and see the best
ever golden sands beach that you are ever likely come across anywhere on this
lovely Island, and is certainly the best beach that I have ever seen on many
trips abroad.
