Spain's Finca Cortesin Golf Club - #2 of 6 Costa del Sol Golf Course Review

Finca Cortesin Golf Club is now the new home of the Volvo World Match Play Championship and measuring 6800 meters this course is a verdant delight. Set in the hills near Casares just a few minutes off the main A7 road with breathtaking views of the surrounding pleasant rolling countryside and Mediterranean Sea.

Spain's Finca Cortesin Golf Club - #2 of 6 Costa del Sol Golf Course Review

The charming low-level clubhouse at Finca Cortesin Golf Club overlooks the expansive practice range below. So you can either watch golfers working on their swing whilst taking a drink or meal on the balcony or venture to the range yourself and hit of as many balls as you wish, as they are free with your green fee.

Spain's Finca Cortesin Golf Club - #2 of 6 Costa del Sol Golf Course ReviewArriving at the first tee you have a wonderful panorama of some of the holes on first nine holes set in a valley below. Finca Cortesin has many elevated tees giving a great view of the hole about to be played. The beautifully maintained, luscious but pleasantly wide fairways together with the immaculate, well-paced greens, are very holding so full shots to the pin are a must. Water hazards are few, mainly around the 3rd and 4th holes and so the course is always going to be a very fair test of golf.

Many holes will leave a lasting impression. Particularly the 207 meters 10th a par three played from a high tee where you feel that you cannot miss the green. But holding up the tee shot with a right hand crosswind so as to not find the bunker on the left, will prove a good test of any golfers ability. The 13th a superb par 4 and Finca Cortesin signature hole, with a brook meandering across the fairway twice will leave you with a demanding second shot to safely carry the hazard just in front of the angled green. The difficult 15th hole needing a good long drive and second shot, gives a great view of the sea from the elevated green. But the par 3, 12th will long remain to mind as the most interesting and difficult hole. Played from a high tee to a green some 205 metres away with trouble in the shape of a huge bunker and sharp slope to the front right hand side of the green, and three bunkers along the left side of a very generous green, the tee shot is all carry. Whilst the green is huge the very subtle contours make for a slippery put from any area and if you walk away with a par you will feel it a job well done!

In conversation after the round, fellow golfers said how fantastic the attached five star Golf Hotel was and how it had made their golf holiday so enjoyable. Many guests commented that they rated it as a 6 star hotel, with one quoting that their stay had been utterly superb with food, accommodation and service as good as they had ever experienced anywhere in the world.

Finca Cortesin is a very discreet high-class development with some outstanding apartments near by and is a truly tranquil place to holiday and golf. So after watching the new World Match Play on TV you simply must book Finca Cortesin for the ultimate experience to play on one of Spain’s finest golf courses.
