Hamburger Land und Golf Club, Hittfeld

12th Green at Hittfeld Golf ClubThe second course we visited on our Golf Holiday in Germany was around 15 miles south of Hamburg just off the A7 motorway to Hanover on the northern edge of the stunningly beautiful Lunenburg Heathland; near to the very attractive village of Hittfeld you will find the Hamburger Land und Golf club, Hittfeld.

Driving to the course through this lovely country side is very relaxing. The entrance to Hittfeld is through an over head curved wooden archway, similar to ones found at Ranches in America, then down a long tree lined road until reaching the car park behind the small attractive clubhouse. There is an abundance of trees and greenery all around, you are after all in the middle of a forest and it is so peaceful.

Playing the 4th Hole at Hittfeld Golf Club near HamburgThe course, the fourth to be built in Hamburg in 1957, measures 6,400 yards, not long by modern standards, but as soon as you stand on the first tee you will understand why length is not important. Cut through an avenue of pine trees the emphasis is on driving accuracy not length.

Whilst not particularly hilly the course does wind its way up and down slopes through the forest to give a variety of shots to be played. But in fairness it is unusual to be presented with anything more than a flat stance for your second shot.

14th Fairway at Hittfeld Golf Club near HamburgDown at the bottom end of the course, holes 12, 13 and 14 are more open. However water comes into play, and the second shot to the par 5, 14th hole is very tough with water all along the right hand side of the fairway. The last hole brings you to an elevated green below the lovely Clubhouse, where you can sit, let the world pass by and take in the lovely view.

You will find it hard to leave the serenity of Hittfeld Golf Club, perfect for a golf holiday and return to the pace of modern life.
