Golf Holiday - Fabulous Golf Courses in Hamburg, Germany for a Golf Holiday

Coat of Arms - Hamburg, GermanyDuring the last week of April 2007, I visited Hamburg in Germany to play golf with an English golf professional friend of mine. When I suggested Hamburg for a golf holiday he questioned if the courses were that good?

Hamburg, Germany is situated geographically on the southern tip of the Jutland Peninsula, centered between Continental Europe and Denmark, Hamburg city lies at the confluence of the rivers Elbe, Alster and Bille, where the city center is set around two beautiful lakes, the Binnenalster - "Inner Alster" and the Aussenalster - "Outer Alster"Scandinavia and between the North and Baltic Seas. Hamburg city lies at the confluence of the rivers Elbe, Alster and Bille, where the city center is set around two beautiful lakes, the Binnenalster - "Inner Alster" and the Aussenalster - "Outer Alster". Hamburg is an international trade centre, the commercial and cultural centre of Northern Germany and a great place to take a Golfing Holiday.

Having spent a couple of years teaching golf there back in the mid 1960’s, I knew he would be surprised at the quality on offer. Within an half an hours drive of the city there are many good and varied golf courses and always well maintained as is the German fashion, making Hamburg an ideal place for a golf holiday.

Central HamburgHamburg is also a beautiful city, with lots of things to do. Surrounded with water from the River Elb through to the Alster Lake, it has elegant buildings, elegant people, is very clean and has a good choice of shops for the non golfer and a great variety of bars and restaurants offering all types of food as well as typical German fare.

Hamburg caters well for eating and drinking outdoors with numerous cafes and bars around the waters edge allowing you to relax and take in the wonderful vista and as the temperature was well into the upper 70’s, we took full advantage of this during our golf holiday.

So whilst Hamburg may not be first choice on most peoples list for a golf holiday, I can thoroughly recommend it. Flying from Birmingham Airport took one hour fifteen minutes to arrive, about the same time as it takes to reach Paris. So give Hamburg a try, after all the Beatles did before they became famous!
