For the moment assume that you are aiming your body 20 metres to the right of the target. Now all you have to do is swing the club in the direction you are aiming, not to the target itself. This will allow you to swing more on the inside, vital to encourage hook spin. So with the club face staying square to the target at impact but with the swing following its path to the right of target, hook spin will be generated, because the club face will actually be closed to your body line. It is so important not to quit swinging along your aiming line at the start of the downswing, as so often happens due to fear of feeling that you are swinging too far to the right. Golfers tend to panic during this part the swing because the set up and aiming line of their swing feels so different from normal. They then swing over and around back towards the target line, or even to the left of target, in the down swing and wonder why they produce a pull or left to right fade even though they set up for a draw.
