Golf Swing Practise Exercises No 7 Hitting balls in a row.
If your ball striking is erratic, you’ve tried every thing you know for a cure, but have run out of ideas of how to bring about improvement and feel thoroughly frustrated, try this five ball hitting exercise. This can only be properly carried out on a grass practise ground.
Arrange a straight row of five golf balls about 3” apart from each other, at 90° to your intended line of direction. This exercise will assume you are a right handed golfer.
Address the first ball as you would if you intended to hit it. Go ahead and hit the shot but instead of stopping on your follow through, swing the club immediately but smoothly back to the top of the backswing and at the same time take a step forward with your right foot towards the next ball, before completing the backswing step your left foot forwards in line with the right foot and without stopping hit the next ball in line. Carry on with hitting all five balls without stopping.
Once you have got used to the routine and developed a good rhythm hitting along the line, you will be delighted to see just how many good shots you can hit. And the swing that was working so poorly just a few moments ago is suddenly hitting balls so effortlessly. Notice that your mind is not cluttered with any other thought than concentrating on maintaining fluid movement.
This should help you to realise the importance of rhythm and timing in any golf swing over the intensity of complicated swing alteration.
