Regent Park a "Golfing Sensation"

In mid January I visited Charlotte, South Carolina to explore golfing areas away from those normally visited by golfers on holiday. Whilst the temperature was a little cool and golf courses at this time of year are in their resting period and not abundant with green growth, I was privileged to play on one of the most impressive courses I have seen during the last forty years, called Regent Park Golf Club.

Just 15 minutes from Charlotte Airport and town centre and situated in 256 acres of superb tranquil countryside, Regent Park opened in 1994, offers the golfer not only wonderful test of golf but superb value for money.

First impressions do count and when entering the huge well stocked Club Shop the enthusiastic new co-owners Doreen Holl and Chris Mclaren, both from Long Island, New York, who purchased this magnificent golfing complex 12 months ago together with Professional Todd Burrell and his staff, will guarantee all who play here a genuinely warm welcome.

The facilities for any golfer wishing to improve are a delight. Just a few yards from the Clubhouse and Tee Time Grill, is the most enormous 26 acre practice area and Golf Academy. Not only can you hit balls from turf on a range that would accommodate at least 20 golfers, the set up looks as it does for a PGA tour event, but to the side are chipping greens and a huge bunker area all waiting for you to develop your skills.

Boasting almost 7 miles of cart track meandering along side gently rolling fairways and avenues of trees this wonderful course offers the golfer 4 different tees giving four different course lengths from which to play. From the longest Black Tee the course measures a punishing 6,785 yards. For single figure players a solid test of their abilities! But as not all golfers want to be tested to the full, the shortest Gold Tees course offers a more comfortable length of 5,347 yards. So you can see this is genuinely a course for all standards of golf. No wonder it has been awarded Golf Digests “Places to Play Award” several times.

The bottom line is what does it cost? If you are fortunate to live near by you can join as a private member. For those of us looking for a golf holiday or simply for an occasional game then green fees in winter months are $39 per round and during the summer $49. Any player over 55 years of age receives a discount of at least $10 per round on those rates. Cart hire is automatically included in all green fees. This just has to be one of the best deals in golf that I have ever seen for a golf course of such high standards.
