Old Golf Club Names - Hickory Golf Clubs
Hickory shafted golf clubs, pre 1929, were always referred to by name to identify the distance that each club would hit a golf ball.
After 1930 the introduction of the steel shaft allowed sets of clubs to be graduated in length, loft and lie and each club was given a number.
Golfers are often confused by the value in terms of distance of these names, so below is a table of all old names for hickory golf clubs covering a full set of clubs, together with a modern golf club equivalent.
