Friends of mine took a golf break at Barnham Broom Hotel,
Golf and Country Club and enjoyed the setup
so much they bought a timeshare there, so I gave it some priority to find out
what is so special about Barnham Broom.
 In fact, pretty well everything about Barnham Broom is rather special. There
are two excellent golf courses – I recommend you start on the Hill Course
which has very generous fairways and is gently undulating amongst mature trees
and water, with plenty of bunkers, but on a good day you should be able to play
to your handicap. Progression to the Valley course,  which contrary to what you
might expect is the hillier of the two courses, presents a real challenge and
a good round here will leave you euphoric. The 7th tee is so high you might think
crampons a good idea, but there are plenty of buggies and a route to the top
and the views up there are spectacular.
The tuition facilities are first rate with 5 acres of practice area, a 3 hole
Academy course and tuition breaks if you’re looking for some intensive
coaching.
 Should you really want to spoil yourself, try one of the spacious suites overlooking
the golf course, or the four-poster bedrooms: they are sumptuous. The atmosphere
in the entire hotel is tasteful and extremely comfortable and the service is
superb.
 For a group with diverse interests, there are tennis and squash courts, a
splendid health & fitness club, yoga and Pilates classes and offsite activities,
which include fishing, riding, shooting and even hot air ballooning. Then you
can rendezvous after your various activities in Flint’s Restaurant, which
is elegant but relaxed, and boast about your successes.
 Alternatively, you might
prefer to eat al fresco on the Sports Bar & Café terrace.
I’m not about to buy a timeshare there because the hotel has everything
I could wish for, but I shall certainly be back for another golf break.
