Having spent much of my life globe trotting, travel holds no magic for me and wild horses wouldn’t get me near an airport  these days. For years I have been saying that if someone would build a golf hotel close to my home it would be a regular venue for my holidays. When it finally happened, it seemed an absurdity to think of staying there as Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate is little more than a mile from my home and hardly worth packing a suitcase. However, in the best interests of this article, it was a good excuse to try it out and it was a joy.
Whatever you are looking for in a golf break, you’ll find it at Rudding Park Hotel. Whether you’re a group of golfers looking for a challenging course, a mixed group with non-golfers who’d like a little retail therapy in the shops of Harrogate or couples who want a luxury break with that necessary “fix” of golf, it’s all there within the walls of Rudding Park. There is even a 6 hole par 3 course under construction for those who still want to golf but need something a little less arduous, though no less challenging – one hole is a replica of the 17th at Sawgrass!! (Opens April 2008)
 Their Golf Academy has a team of excellent instructors, a fine floodlit driving range with pop-up balls and the very latest in technological aids. The clubhouse restaurant has a bistro atmosphere and a menu to match. This is a very golfer friendly establishment.
The hotel will measure up to the standards of the most discerning. The beautifully appointed bedrooms all have fast internet connection should you need to keep in touch with business interests, although comfort is also to the forefront. The  Clocktower restaurant and bar have been opulently refurbished and the result is stunning, but the casual elegance has been retained for those who don’t want to do too much dressing up. The menu has a variety of dishes that would tempt the most demanding palate.
Need I say more: I will pack a suitcase to stay at Rudding Park any time.
