It is some time since my last visit to the Telford Golf Hotel. Then it was
a rather modest establishment with first-rate food and a good golf course that
featured many large shallow bunkers, which I visited on a regular basis. The
upside of this was a great improvement in my sand play. Those bunkers have virtually
disappeared in the updated course which has been widely acclaimed. It’s
gently undulating, but not arduous to walk, and the trees and surrounding landscape
can almost make you take your eye off the ball. I really enjoyed this very well
re-designed course.
 But
the hotel itself was a revelation. An investment of £10.2 million
has produced a 4-star deluxe hotel that bears little relation to the one I last
visited. The new Spa is state-of-the-art, with pool and all the modern technological
equipment for fitness and relaxation.
 The
1779 restaurant is a masterpiece with views over the Ironbridge Gorge and a terrace
for dining al fresco when the weather permits.
The food which is traditional,
is superb – their seared king scallops were the best I have
ever tasted.
 The
accommodation has been tastefully updated with lots of storage space and totally
equipped for today’s needs, and there’s a lot more of it.
Telford Golf and Spa Hotel offers 2 hours FREE WiFi for all residential guests
in their bedroom.
 Should
all this not be sufficient to keep you within the environs of the hotel, then
the area is an Aladdin’s cave of museums, stately homes, medieval
architecture and the world-famous Iron Bridge to satisfy your cultural appetite.
If you have been to this resort before, you will be amazed at its transformation.
